9 Rules of Hitchhiking

How to become a hitchhiker


1. Get your travel gear

Be prepared for a long journey. You need be sure that you have all necessary in road. The minimum of hitchhikers stuff is: a durable backpack, a warm and  light sleeping bag, a pancho, decent hiking shoes,  clothes, food, water and emergency gear.

2. Go to the edge of town

Hitchhiking is a free ride. So find the cheapest way to get out of city. Get round to nearest highway

3. Stand close by a highway and stick out your thumb

It’s on. You are at the edge of town. You are ready to go. Just thumb up!

4. Check out the car and driver

Inquire about where the driver is going. Look at the driver. Trust your instincts. If you  have some bad feelings let this car go.

5. Get in the car

Now you are in. Keep your hands in plain site. For the first part of trip the driver may not trust you. Make everything to set him at ease.

6. Talk to the driver

The silence is uncomfortable. In the most of case the driver stops because they are bored and they want to talk. Keep up the conversation, but avoid some subjects: race, religion, sexuality.

7. Be attentive

When you get out of the car check all your stuff

8. Hitchhike during daylight

Do not stay near the highway at the night. It’s dangerous. Find some quite place to rest.

9. Get up early in the morning

Use every moment of daylight to hitchhike. You will sleep at home.
